- The Chihuhuan Desert (pictured to right) -The Sonoran Desert - The Great Basin Desert - The Mojave Desert To be considered a desert an area must less than 10 inches of annual rainfall

The Creosote Bush is low to the ground and has waxy leaves to allow heat to escape and a good amount of water to be retained The Mexican Fire- barrel Cactus’ waxy coat, spines and ability to retain water allow it to thrive in the desert

The Greater Earless Lizard basks in the sun, and then burrows underground when temperatures get too high The Desert CottonTail is only active in the early morning and late afternoon and has adapted to rarely need water

Deserts cover about 1/5 of the Earth house all kinds of plants and animals that can’t be found in other biomes It’s important to protect the biodiversity of the planet in all the different biomes
