4. Collaboration Briefing: This activity will require you to work together as a team to solve a problem. You will be divided into groups of four or five. As a team, you are to build a shelter large enough for yourselves to fit into using only masking tape and newspaper. Your shelter must be free standing – meaning it can’t lean or attach to anything. Before your fifteen minute build time, you will have three minutes of plan time. You may not start building until I call time to build.

Processing 1.What happened in your team? 2.Who took the leadership role? 3.Did the leader listen to others on the team? 4.Did the leader in your group consider the team goals before their own personal goals? 5.Did the leadership role shift at all during the activity? 6.How were decisions made in your group? 7.What sort of team player were YOU? 8.What do you need to do to be a better team player? 9.How would collaborative skills help in your family? In the classroom? On a sports team?

6. Journal #9 Date your journal. The last time you wrote in your journal, you listed the roles you might find on a team. You also described how you typically act in a team situation. Can a person be both a follower and a leader on a team at the same time? Is one better than the other? Why or why not? Based on the character traits that you’ve studied, would you consider yourself a leader? Why or why not? What are you doing to be a better team player? Better leader?
