LOM Learning Outcome Manager Created by Brian Arnold, Ai Past Dean Presented by Sarah Duff, Academic Technologies

How can we demonstrate that students are learning?

LOM is… A tool that allows educators to assess student work against learning outcomes. A tool that allows educators to obtain consistence student performance information. Integrated with the eCollege/eCompanion classroom.

LOM allows you to assess student work against learning outcomes  LOM allows us to link course content and assignments with learning outcomes.  LOM allows instructors to evaluate using developed course rubrics.  LOM integrates this assessment into the grading workflow.  LOM illustrates links between assignments and outcomes.

LOM allows you to obtain consistent student performance information  LOM provides students and instructors with a graphical representation of performance against the courses’ learning outcomes.  LOM highlights individual student opportunities and achievement against other students in the same course.  LOM allows rubrics to be utilized across all sections of a course, regardless of instructor.

LOM is integrated with eCollege/eCompanion  Uses a platform with which students and instructors are already familiar, including the Gradebook workflow.  Works with both online and brick-and-mortar courses.  Accessible from anywhere.

So, how does LOM work?

LOM is made up of two elements: The Repository and The Course.

The Repository The Repository allows you to: Create the hierarchy of levels, groups, and learning statements. Make associations between learning statements, groups, and other learning statements. Provide rubrics for each outcome. Search learning statements.

The Course references learning outcomes and rubrics from The Repository

The Course T he Course allows you to: Design presentation and assessment of material. Associate presentations and assignments with outcomes. Evaluate using pre-determined rubrics. Student access to outcomes and rubrics.

And, what does LOM look like?

Who benefits from using LOM? ADMINISTRATORS gain: A framework for curriculum discussions Ongoing concrete accreditation data Equitable faculty performance information Faculty who self-assess Opportunities for “faculty development” vs. “curriculum revision”

Who benefits from using LOM? FACULTY gain: Digital tracking of student performance Comparability of effectiveness Demonstration of performance success Greater leverage of other eCollege/eCompanion tools

Who benefits from using LOM? STUDENTS gain: Personal performance information Insight into how each assignment contributes Accountability Real-time evaluations Self-assessment

Can LOM do anything else?

The future of LOM Data will be available in Enterprise Reporting, which will allow speedy aggregation. Ability to have external assessors participate in the process. Program-level reports. Electronic Storage Cabinets will be available to aggregate student work from throughout their matriculation process.
