Objective I will compare the cultures of American Indians in Texas prior to European colonization such as Gulf, Plains, Puebloan, and Southeastern groups by researching the tribes within these groups and writing a comparison essay.

Step 1: Research You will research the four groups of American Indians in Texas. Western Gulf – Karankawas and Coahuiltecans Southeastern – Caddo, Wichita, and Atakapans Publoan – Jumanos Plains – Tonkawas, Comanches, Apaches, Kiowas In your journal you will write notes over the four groups and the American Indian tribes that belonged to the groups. Diet – Hunters? Gathers? Farmers? What did they eat? Shelter – what did their home look like? Nomads? Permanent Settlements? Appearance – what did they look like? Tattoos? Clothing? Hair? Daily life – What was their daily life like?

Paper Once you have completed your research and shown your research to Mrs. Smith, you may start writing your rough draft essay in your journal. Remember you are comparing the tribes of the four groups” Southeastern, Plains, Gulf, and Puebloan. Within these groups there are ten tribes total.
