2 Goal 1 Democracy Magna Carta Republican/Republicanism Separation of Powers Suffrage Common Law Quartering Factions Salutary Neglect Quakers Nationalism Dictatorship Ratification Stamp Act Egalitarianism

3 Common Law Law that is not written down, but is based on past precedent and customs.

4 Democracy People having a say in what happens in their government Everyone can pitch in

5 Dictatorship When the party in charge has no limits and is commanded by a single person

6 Egalitarianism When everyone is considered equal to one another

7 Factions A group or bunch of people that believe in the same idea

8 Magna Carta Basic Rights for the English that King John signed Gave the English people what they wanted

9 Nationalism Patriotism to ones nation

10 Quakers A non violent religion that promotes equality of the sexes and does not recognize being different

11 Quartering To hold in a household

12 Ratification Getting accepted by all of the states

13 Republican/Republicanism One who favors a republican form of government. Lowering taxes and limiting government involvement

14 Salutary Neglect Letting colonist run and govern themselves without any help

15 Separation of Powers When the government is split up so that each branch can check each other. Makes the Government less powerful

16 Stamp Act When taxes were raised on almost all paper products

17 Suffrage The act or right to vote Usually pertains to women getting the right to vote.

18 Goal 2 Cloture Filibuster Preamble Bill Whip Pardons Immunity Senate Tariffs Fines Expulsion Precedence Revenue Treaty Medicaid

19 Bill An Idea for a law that is still being revised on paper

20 Cloture To end or close an argument or debate Stopping of a dispute

21 Expulsion If a member of congress does something so offensive that he or she is taken off of congress

22 Filibuster When a person talks about a subject as long as he/she likes to prevent people from voting or to encourage people to vote. Usually a very long procedure

23 Fines Money that is collected by the government for wrongdoings

24 Immunity When a member of congress is in session they cannot be arrested besides treason, a felony, or breach of peace

25 Medicaid Government funded health insurance for people who don’t make much money

26 Pardons When the president excuses people from jail time from criminal offenses

27 Preamble The introduction to any type of writing. Found in the beginning of the US Constitution

28 Precedence When past court decisions are used to make legal rulings based on interpretation

29 Revenue Money that the government gains

30 Senate A house composed of two senators per state that serve six year terms

31 Tariffs Taxes that are put on products that are imported from foreign areas

32 Treaty A formal agreement between two or more countries

33 Whip A part of the house that makes the members of a party vote the way the party leaders want them to
