2 Complex sent.: A sentence containing a subordinate clause or clauses. Clauses: A unit of grammatical organization next below the sentence in rank and in traditional grammar said to consist of a subject and predicate. DEFINITION

3 Complex Sentence: contains an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses Clause: A clause is a group of words consisting of a subject (often just a single noun) Dependent: Dependent clauses cannot stand alone as sentences. KID FRIENDLY

4 They allow an incomplete fragment of a sentence to be joined with another fragment to create a full sentence. WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT
