2  A sentence must have a subject and verb  Ask yourself “Who or what did or is something?”  That is your subject.  Ex. My hair wakes up stupid.  Who or what is the sentence about?  …My hair

3  My hair is the subject, now what is the verb  Ask yourself, “ What are they or what did they do?”  That is your verb.  Ex. My hair wakes up stupid.  What does my hair do?  …wakes

4  Fragments are missing a subject or verb  Do not assume that a capital letter and a period make a sentence complete  Ing form of a verb does not make a sentence. Ex. Students read. (sentence)  Students reading. (not a sentence)

5  My sweat smells like peanut butter.  Who or what did or is something?  My sweat  What are they or what did they do?  Smells  My sweat smells.  Is that a sentence?  Yes!
