Protist- animal like By: Jamie, Joe and Aaron .
2
Principal characteristics
The prostists are classified by the type of locomotion. Also by criteria such as types of organelles , life cycle , mode of reproduction, nutrition and if the organism is free living or parasitic. They are classified in four different groups Zooflagellates - flagella Sarcodines - extensions of cytoplasm (pseudopodia) Ciliates - cilia Sporozoans - do not move
3
Corporal Structure Protists are eukaryotes and depending on the type of protists determines whether or not they have symmetry. For example , paramecium has binary symmetry but the plasmodium flaciparum ( malaria ) does not have any symmetry at all.
4
Reproduction Protist use both sexual and asexual reproduction or both . With the asexual reproduction it is by binary fusion. Multiple asexual division occurs in some forms. Sexual protists ( gametes) is unclear how frequently sexual reproduction causes genetic exchange between different strains of plasmodium.
5
Circulation Protist don’t have a circulatory system because they are a single celled organisms . They get there energy by diffusion through the cell wall.
6
Digestion They are hetotrophs . They digest there food by phagocytosis .They generally move around to get food. They eat bacteria and other micro organisms . But Saprozic organisms absorb pre-digested or soluble nutrients directly through cell membrane. Although the algea
7
Nervous system Protist do not have a nervous system because they are unicellular , but they do have a nucleus. And in some cases ( for example the paramecium ) they have two nuclei.
8
Respiration Because the protist are unicellular they can take in raw materials and give out waste through diffusion.
9
Habitat Prostist live in a diverse amount of habitats, mostly moist environments. Like fresh water or salt water. All protists are aquatic or live inside a host.
10
Sample organisms Plasmodium Falciparum (malaria);
Malaria is caused by four protist that make up genus plasmodium Domain- Eukarya Kingdom- chromalveolata Phylum- Apicomplex Class- aconoidnsida Family – plasmodiidae Genus – plasmodium Species – plasmodium falciparum
11
Paramecium Domain- Eukarya Kingdom- Protista Phylum- Ciliophora
Class- Ciliatea Order- peniculida Family – Paramecium Species- Paramecium Aurelia

Interesting facts Protist first appeared on fossils 1.5 billion years ago To small to be seen with the naked eye They can only live in water or in a host. They are all unicellular.
