1 FLAO_08 FLAO System Shipping Plan Document 646f010a Richard Demers, Guido Brusa, Armando Riccardi, Daniele Galieni FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March 2009

2 2 1. Objective & Scope Objective – –Design a procedure for disassembly, packing and shipment of all hardware from Arcetri to LBTO –Ensure hardware safety –Conform to the program schedule Scope – –Point of origin for all hardware is OAA –Delivery to LBTO basecamp or Sunnyside facility –Does NOT include transportation to summit All containers must withstand transport from basecamp to summit on un-paved roads The plan development is work in progress and will be completed soon enough to meet the program shedule

Secondary Mirrors Disassembly and packing sequence 1Dismount SM unit and transport to cleanroom 1 2Dismount thin shell from SM unit 2 3Invert the thin shell 3 4Protect the SM unit from contaminants 5Separate the hexapod and surrogate hub from the remaining unit 6Pack the hexapod + telescope hub on its transport frame in shipping Crate n.1 7Pack the remaining SM unit on its transport frame in Crate n.2 8Pack all supports, lifting frames, cranes, tooling and RRH in Crate n.3 Ref documents 1.646f006 (reverse procedure) 2.646a010 3.646f009a

7 FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March 2009 7 5. Thin Shells Disassembly and packing sequence 1 1Invert the thin shell (already completed for the previously integrated shells) 1 1Exception – replace the cleaning tray with the shipping tray 2Must modify the lateral restraint on the TS 2Install thin shell on lower shipping tray 2 1Exception – Will not apply protective coating (Opticote) on the convex surface due complex magnet topography 2Application of on the concave surfaces is TBD 3Pack the thin shell in the inner box 4 4Pack the inner box in the outer box (shipping container) 5 Ref documents 1.646s202b 2.646f009a 3.646s085d 4.646s120a 5.646s123a 6.646004b
