URANUS IS HEAVY WITH CLOUDS!
3
URANUS PLANET PROFILE Mass: 86,810,300,000,000,000 billion kg. (approximately 14.536 x Earth) Equatorial Diameter: 51,118 km. Polar Diameter: 49,946 km. Circumference: 159,354 km. Orbit Distance: 2,870,658,186 km. Orbit period: 30,687.15 Earth Days, 84.02 Earth years Surface Temperature: -197°C

URANUS PLANET PROFILE CONTINUED (THINGS YOU MIGHT NEED TO RIGHT DOWN) Number of known moons: 27 Number of known rings: 13 Uranus rotates on its axis once every 17 hours and 14 minutes. Uranus’s mantle is covered and made with ice Uranus was discovered by William Herschel
5
MORE FACTS! Winds on Uranus reach up to 900Km per hour (approximately 560 Miles per hour) Uranus is the second least dense planet, Saturn is the least dense Uranium was named after Uranus, this also influenced the final decision of the new planet Uranian moons are named after characters created by Shakespeare and Alexander Pope
6
MORE FACTS!!! Name of a few moons: Oberon, Titania, Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel When scientists were trying to decide a name for Uranus, one of the recommendations was actually King George, to honor King George Voyager 2 holds the record for being the closest to Uranus when it flew by Uranus is the coldest planet in the solar system even though Neptune is farther from the sun
7
WHO IS URANUS? Uranus (actually Ouranos) is the name of the Greek God of the Sky He is the husband of Gaia (goddess of the Earth) Uranus didn’t like his children, so he banished them to Tartarus Gaia was infuriated by this, so she gave an adamantine sickle to the youngest son, Cronus Using the sickle, Cronus injured Uranus, and the blood of Uranus that fell to Earth created giants and Nymphs Also in some legends, Uranus’s blood created the goddess Aphrodite
8
WE ARE RICH!!! Scientific studies show that diamonds rain on Uranus Also, scientists say that Saturn and Jupiter have the possibility of raining diamonds, but the diamonds melt before they hit the ground Uranus has diamonds just laying on the ground all over the planet
9
WHY THE STRANGE TILT? Uranus is tilted 98 ° off of it’s orbital plane with the sun, Why? Actually this is still a mystery, and here are three theories on how this happened. 1.Theory number one is that an object the size of a Earth or larger hit Uranus and made Uranus tilt 2.Theory number two is that multiple asteroids or objects hit Uranus at about the same time, causing the tilt (this theory is the theory that most scientists believe) 3.Theory number three is that when the planets were created, a moon that belonged to Uranus (that has been ejected) was large enough that this moon, and the other moons, were able to tilt the planet to its side. This theory has been tested by scientists through simulations and it has worked many times.
