Changes of State  A change in state from/to a solid, liquid or gas is a physical change  Example: ice/metal melting (solid  liquid), evaporation (water  gas), condensation (gas  liquid), B. Changes in Shape or Form  Example: building a sandcastle, pouring water into a container, crushing a soda can, folding paper, dissolving sugar, making a snowman, carving pumpkins Physical Change

3 1. Chemical Change  _________________ – change in matter that creates 1+ NEW substances  Produces NEW substances with DIFFERENT properties than the original A. Examples of Chemical Change  Examples: carbonating soda, making paper, combustion (burning fuel to create heat, light, new substance), sand  glass, rusting metal Chemical Change
