4 Birth & Beyond California Objectives Contribute to creating an environment for maternal-infant care based on best practice guidelines as defined in Providing Breastfeeding Support: Model Hospital Policy Recommendations Demonstrate the skills necessary to design a plan of care that will maximize mother and infant skin-to-skin contact and bonding Identify biologic, nutritional and immunologic properties of breastfeeding and the risks of artificial milk Recognize and discuss actions that will overcome common barriers to support mothers’ choice to exclusively breastfeed 4
