3 Project Standards Read The Standards before you plan what to write in each section Read The Standards after you’ve written each section –Does your paper address that section of the Standards? –Have you addressed ALL of the questions in that section? You are encouraged to structure your report by The Standards, using the headings as your titles. (Not required but encouraged).

4 Use Available Resources One-on-one meetings with TFs are available and encouraged –You may even meet with more than one of us –You may meet with us multiple times Use the Sample Projects –Go to MyGSE: T-540 –Click on PowerPoints and Handouts –Go to Sample Projects Folder

5 Addendums and Rewrites Our comments on this project are cumulative The goal of rewrites/addendums/requests for additional information: –to advance your thinking –to open a dialogue about your work –To support you in deep thinking Please hand these in as soon as possible

6 Initial Reports Due December 11, 2006 You have six weeks to advance your project Will be half to two-thirds a complete draft of your final report + early form of prototype

7 1. Overall Purpose Describe what’s worth learning Outline overall purpose of intervention Specify learners Specify what they should learn Discuss why it is important to learn that (at an individual level and for society)

8 2. Learning Objectives Many problems with this standard Clear, specific learning objectives From the Learners’ Standpoint Not goals for teaching or instruction Not goals for assessment Mention understanding & transferability

9 2. Learning Objectives At the end of this intervention, learners… ….should know _____. ….will be better at ____. ….will be skilled at ____. ….will care about ____. ….will be motivated to do ____. ….will be alert to ____.

10 3. Analysis of Learning Challenges What makes it hard to learn? Analysis should be from learner’s standpoint Describe a theory of difficulty “motivation/boredom/complications” are too vague

11 4. Structure of the Intervention How is it best learned? Active Learning Describe structure of intervention –How does it work? –Who does what? Describe assessment –How is progress tracked? –How well is the learning going?

12 5. Justification for Design Justify your structure How is it best learned? How can I get it learned that way? Describe your instructional design using at least three (3) T-540 design principles Don’t “Term Drop” – describe how the concept applies to your intervention

13 7. Prototype Explicitly state what you are designing Remember a teacher manual prototype will need to take teachers’ learning into account in addition to learners
