What changes for the users u Nothing … except: u Must have same username on Mail and NICE u Pine users on Linux should use at least version 4.21 u Pine users will have to type their password when pine starts u Procmail no longer supported (workaround being investigated, users will be contacted) Pine4 on lxplus.cern.ch

New services available to ALL migrated users u Mail Password = NICE password u Single sign on across NICE, Mail and Central Web servers u New Webmail available at http://cern.ch/mmmhttp://cern.ch/mmm u Shared Calendar using the Web interface u Current limitation: cannot create appointments in someone else’s calendar using the Web u Web interface to Internet News and Public folders u Improved Spam Fight u Possibility to encrypt mail sessions using secure-IMAP and secure-POP protocols

New functionality with a MAPI-enabled mail client u MAPI-enabled clients exist for Windows and Macintosh u Linux: Ximian Evolution & Connector to be investigated u Outlook XP on Windows 2000 supported u The user has to choose for the installation of Office XP u Outlook XP users will have: u Calendaring / Collaborative Work group / Delivery&Read receipts / Instant messaging u Delegation and Send on behalf u Offline mail and calendar u Public folders

Organize a Mail Migration Task Force u Organize and coordinate migrations within divisions and report general problems u Monthly meeting and ad hoc discussions with division representatives u Proposed initial MMMTF membership taken from the W2KMTF

Proposed plan (1) u During November 2002 - Turn the pilot into a service u Organise training for support staff u Prepare web site and documentation u Open user support lines for the new Mail services u Coordinate with HR/TD u Beginning of December u New mailboxes will be created ONLY on the new service u Start synchronizing mail and NICE passwords u On next password change u Legacy mail services (Simba) will also accept the NICE password when not in sync

Proposed plan (2) u Beginning of 2003 u Close the old webmail interface u Aim at migrating users transparently, not offer more functionality u Migrate mail5 u Oldest machine (~4 years) u 1800 users; 800 active u Optional migration to mail7/8 if procmail/ pine password/username cause problem u End-user tutorials u NEXT: Organize division by division migrations with MMMTF
