BrainPOP Jr. has many videos that show students how to do certain things with math. The video of tally charts and bar graphs specifically shows students how to gather data using a tally chart and a bar graph. For example, they are at the museum and they want to know how many of their classmates like certain dinosaurs. First they tally up the amount of students for each dinosaur, then they take the totals of each and transfer that to a bar graph. They go on to show you how to set a bar graph up and how to find the total amount of students involved in the data.

They can pause the video when they need to and even rewind if they need to go back and rewatch part of it. “Students learn better when allowed to control the pace of presentation of the instructional materials” (Moreno & Mayer, 2007, p 316). Because they have the power of how fast or slow they move through the video, they are more likely to retain the information. “Pace control reduces representational holdings by allowing students to process smaller chunks of information in working memory” (Moreno & Mayer, 2007, p 316). The video shows them how to use a tally chart and bar graph and also explains why they use them.
