On August 7- 9, Typhoon Morakot brought the worst flooding in 50 years.

This typhoon hit Taiwan seriously in the south and east. Because the storm brought heavy rain, southern Taiwan experienced over 2,500 mm of rain.

The storm left more than 600 people dead or missing, and large flooding washed away bridges and roads, and covered many homes. The roads and bridges were flooded and blocked by landslides and fallen trees.

Some villages were buried and barrier lakes were also formed.

Agricultural and fishing losses were great. The military and many volunteers were needed to help with cleanup. Some music festivals were held for fundraising.
