4 PIIC – S TATEWIDE S UPPORT FOR I NSTRUCTIONAL C OACHES 2005: PAHSCI: 3 years (+1), funded by Annenberg grant One math and one literacy coach for every 600 students 16 high-needs districts in PA (26 high schools) 2009: PIIC: 7 years, additional Annenberg grant, plus yearly PDE commitment Started in 7 IUs; now in 25 of 29 IUs statewide

5 PIIC M ISSION To support instructional coaching which helps teachers strengthen instructional practice, increase student engagement, and improve student learning.

6 F OUR Q UADRANTS OF PIIC F RAMEWORK Advocate one-on-one and small group support for teachers, coaches, and school leaders using the BDA cycle of consultation Focus on collecting, analyzing, and using data to identify student needs, assess changes in classroom practice, & measure student progress Emphasize the use of evidence-based literacy practices and research-based instructional techniques Support reflective and non-evaluative practices
