1 Classroom Expectations Grade 7 Mrs. Samaddar 2014-2015 “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Oliver Wendell Holmes

2 Student Behaviors Be prompt  Begin working when you first sit down (e.g., morning activity – “bellwork”). Be prepared  Have materials, including sharpened pencils, with you. Be a polite and positive participant  Speak in a normal tone of voice; listen attentively. Be productive  Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be a problem solver  Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.  Learn from mistakes (your own and others)

3 Show Respect Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. Honor the ideas and opinions of others. Offer to help. Be responsible with property and belongings.

4 Responsibility for Coursework Bring notebook, textbook, planner, and appropriate writing tools to class. Know due dates, and do your best to submit all assignments on time. Know your assignments - most are posted on the assignment board and on the class Homepage site. Ask for assistance when it is needed and/or take in opportunities for extra help before school, lunch and/or recess

5 Promote Lifelong Learning You can develop lifelong learning traits:  By showing curiosity about human nature and how the world works.  By seeking and valuing diversity.  By persisting in seeking out new solutions.  By using your unique talents and intelligence to promote positive change.  By learning and applying technology tools to solve problems.

6 Policies Food and beverages should be consistent with our “healthy eating/living” BC Actions Schools program/approach at KLO. A reminder - We are a “peanut-aware” school. Stay seated while eating your lunch, eat with your best manners and only leave when dismissed by our NHS. Please be in your seat when the bell rings, as class begins on time WITH A PRIME TIME ACTIVITY. Actively involve yourself and take charge of your own learning (e.g., apply Assessment for Learning and Restitution ideas) Absences  Ask team members or a classmate first for assignments.  Check our website, email or call Mrs. Samaddar before returning to class.

8 My Pledge to Students I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. I will respect you and work with you to solve problems positively I will promptly correct and offer feedback on your work. I will work with challenge you to meet your own learning goals – remember “it’s all about thinking”!) I will offer extra help and alternative assessments should you require them. I will help to create conditions for you to fix mistakes and return the our class/group strengthened
