Properties of Metals and Nonmetals
2
Metals Metals have certain properties such as they are malleable, ductile, and conductive. Malleable-capable of being extended or shaped by beating with a hammer or by the pressure of rollers Ductile-capable of being drawn out into wire or thread Conductive-ability to transfer energy in the form of heat or electrical
3
Non-metals Nonmetals have most properties opposite of metals. They are non-ductile Un-conductive Brittle if in the solid state Are found as solid, liquids and gases at room temperature
4
Groups Elements in a group have similar physical properties to each other. Such properties are – Boiling point – Melting point – Density
5
Electron shells An easy way to determine the number of electrons in each shell for elements 1 through 20 are by counting the number of electrons it has per periods.
