Cloud-Aerosol Scanner: Possible measurements Droplet effective radius Cloud Extinction Profile Aerosol Absorption Aerosol Optical properties Aerosol size distribution AOT profile Surface properties Physical Characteristics Total FOV ~120dg pixel FOV 1dg 4 to 14 lambda 0.47 to 2.1 m The main idea is to scan clouds from the side with a relatively low sun and invert the vertical profiles of cloud droplet effective radius and light extinction. The indicated distances just shows an example for reference.
2
Can we get more angular information to invert droplet size by flying close to the clouds or even in the opposite side from the sun?
3
Comparing 0.87 and 0.66 m reflected from the cloud over dense vegetation can provide the light extinction profile as a function of cloud height. With 1dg FOV, 3km from the cloud, the foot print perpendicular to the cloud will be about 50m. Cloud Extinction Profile Will aerosol absorption bother the measurement? Can we use it to measure the aerosol absorption in clouds?
