Bullying vs. Harassment Bullying is a type of violence in which one person uses threats, taunts, or violence to intimate another again and again Harassment is ongoing conduct that offends another person by criticizing his or her race, color, religion, physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender Sexual Harassment is uninvited and unwelcome sexual conduct directed at another person

Cyberbullying The electronic posting of mean-spirited messages about a person, often done anonymously. Places people are cyberbullied include: Social media sites Text messages E-Mail Instant Messages Chat rooms Online gaming sites

How to Stop a Bully Tell the bully to stop Walk away and stay away Avoid physical violence Find an adult

Strategies to Avoid Being Bullied Talk to an adult you trust Avoid places where you know bullies target other students Stay with a group or find a safe place to go

Stop Bullying Behavior If you have been called a bully or you think you might have bullied another person, follow these steps: Stop and think before you say or do something that could hurt someone Talk to an adult you trust and describe what upsets you about the other person Remember that everyone is different, and that our differences make us interesting and unique If you think you have bullied someone in the past, apologize to that person
