1 NEWLY COMMISSIONED OFFICER VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT NEW YORK AIR NATIONAL GUARD 174th FIGHTER WING 6001 EAST MOLLOY ROAD SYRACUSE, NY 13211-7099 ANNOUNCEMENT#: FY 16-7 DATE: 22 Jan 16 CLOSING DATE: 22 Feb 16 UNIT:274 Air Support Operations Squadron POSITION TITLE: CAREER AIR LIAISON OFFICER 2LT-MAJ AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All candidates may apply who meet the basic qualification for this position and who are eligible for membership in the NYANG. AFSC: 13L1A -Upon ANGRC approval, member enters a training program to qualify and perform as a Career Air Liaison Officer. The following schools are mandatory for successful completion of the program: Academy of Military Science (AMS); Air Liaison Officer Basic Course (ALOBC); Air Liaison Officer Qualification Course (ALOQC); Joint Air Operations Command and Control Course (JAOC2C); US Army Brigade Combat Team (BCT) Fire Support Coordinator (FSCOORD) Course; US Army Joint Fires Observer (JFO) Course; Combat Survival Training, S-V80-A; US Army Airborne School (selected candidates); USAF Joint Terminal Attack Controller Qualification Course (JTACQC) The Air Liaison Officer (ALO) specialty (13LX) is the senior Tactical Air Control Party member who functions as the primary advisor to the Ground Force Commander on airpower capabilities to include Close Air Support (CAS), Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Electronic Warfare (EW) and Mobility. The ALO will engage enemy forces utilizing advanced technologies and weapons systems to direct lethal and non-lethal fires and effects as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC). ALOs perform tactical level surveillance and reconnaissance functions fusing organic and remote controlled technologies and manned platforms in order to build the Common Operating Picture (COP) for the Ground Force Commander. This specialty provides Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C3ISR) to assist, control and enable the application of manned and unmanned, lethal and non-lethal airpower in all geographic and environmental conditions across the full spectrum of military operations. The Air Liaison Officer (ALO) leads, plans, organizes, and supervises day-to-day Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) members, as well as, Air Support Operations Squadron (ASOS) and TACP Air Operations Crew functions both in garrison and while deployed. QUALIFICATIONS AND SELECTION FACTORS - Selection for this position will be made without regard to race, religion, color, creed, or national origin. - This is currently a male-only career field. - Applications are subject to review by the Military Personnel Flight upon initial submittal, and as mandatory requirements are met, as outlined in applicable regulations. - The requirements and qualifications prescribed in this announcement are minimum for nomination for appointment consideration. Appointment is not assured merely by meeting these requirements. - Be Advised: the Air Liaison Officer Basic Course has strenuous fitness requirements for graduation: - 40 Pushups (2 min); 48 Sit Ups (2 min); 2 Mile Run (10min 47 Sec); 6 Pull Ups; 20 km Ruck March w/ 95 lbs in 4 hrs Proper form for each exercise is strictly enforced. - Personnel not meeting these minimums WILL NOT graduate ALOBC. EDUCATION: Applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree. For entry into this specialty, undergraduate academic specialization in a technical discipline with courses in administration and management is desirable. (SEE REVERSE) HQ NYANG Fm 11, 7 Oct 96

2 OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Cannot be older than 35 years (waivers possible, but must not reach age 40 prior to AMS graduation). 2. Applicants must be citizens of the United States. Naturalized citizens must submit documents required by AFI 36-2610 with application. 3. Applicants must complete Air Force Officer Qualification Test (AFOQT). Specialty requires routine access to Top Secret or similar environment and completion of a current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) according to AFI 31 ‑ 501, Personnel Security Program Management. 5. Selection process is as follows: A. A pre-screening board will review all applications received by the announcement closing date. B. A selection panel will interview applicants. Up to three candidates will be selected. D. Applicants must pass a commissioning physical and physical qualification for parachutist duty according to AFI 48- 123, Medical Examinations and Standards. Physicals will be scheduled immediately for both the primary and alternate candidates nominated by the selection panel. 6. Experience as enlisted TACP (JTAC or ROMAD) is beneficial but is NOT MANDATORY. APPLICATION PROCEDURES: Applicants will prepare and forward a Resume (with complete employment history and summary of why you are interested in the 274 ASOS and TACP career field), one (1) copy of AF Form 24 - Application of Appointment as Reserves of the Air Force or USAF Without Component, a copy of their college transcripts with diploma, a copy of their AFOQT scores No Later Than Close of Business of Announcement Closing Date.
