4
Example Find the Unit Price if an 8oz can of Campbell’s soup costs $1.19 $1.19 (divide) 8 1.19 ÷ 8 = 0.14875 Since this is money - round to the hundredths place 0.15¢ per oz
5
Example Find the Unit Cost when a 24 Oz Box of Lucky Charms costs $3.99 $3.99 (divide) 24 3.99 ÷ 24 = 0.16625 Round 0.17¢ per oz
6
Example Find the Unit Cost if an 8 pack of Capri Sun costs $2.99 0.37¢ per juice
7
TRY!!! Find the Unit Cost if a 10 oz bottle of Baby Shampoo Costs $1.89 0.19¢ per oz
8
Comparing Unit Prices Sometimes, we want to compare the unit prices of two different items. When doing this we are looking for the “Best Buy” “Better Value”
9
To Compare To compare unit prices we must: Find the unit price of each item separately Choose the item with the LOWER unit price
10
What is the better value? A 12 oz can of Campbell’s Tomato Soup for $0.99, or a 10 oz can of Heinz Tomato Soup for $0.89? Unit Price 0.99 ÷ 12 = 0.0825 or 0.08¢ per oz Unit Price 0.89 ÷ 12 = 0.07416… or 0.07¢ per oz The better buy is the Heinz since 0.07¢ is less than 0.08 ¢
11
Your Turn!! What is the better value? A 12 pack of pop- tarts for $2.99 or an 8 pack of pop-tarts for $2.19? 2.99 ÷ 12 = 0.25 2.19 ÷ 8 = 0.27 The 12 pack is the better value!
12
One More - Which is the better value? A 20 oz bottle of ketchup for $2.19 or a 32 oz. bottle of ketchup for $3.59? 2.19 ÷ 20 = 0.1095 3.59 ÷ 32 = 0.1121 The 20 oz bottle is the better value!
