3. What is matter? Material that makes up everything on Earth Very tiny particles called atoms make up matter. Compounds are combinations of elements. There are 3 states of matter.

4. Solid Molecules are packed tightly together Substance keeps its shape Molecules don’t move much Definite size and shape Example: ice

5. Liquid Molecules are farther apart so they can move more freely. Has certain volume, but doesn’t keep its shape Takes the shape of the container that holds it Example: water

6. Gas Molecules are far apart. Molecules move freely No shape or size of its own Example: air
