Proportional Reasoning – Breakout 2 Learning Goals: Recognize the importance of clearly identifying: –What we want students to know (learning goal). –How we will know that they learned it (consolidating question). Practice designing lesson frameworks by starting with learning goals and consolidating question(s). Explore proportional reasoning concepts in curriculum documents. 22

Proportional Reasoning – Breakout 2 Minds On ~ 5 minutes Read the article “The House” individually. Use a highlighter to highlight important information. Facilitators will visit each table before you begin reading to provide further instructions. 33

Round Robin – each person will share their TOP 3 with a justification. Come to consensus on your table’s TOP 3. Be prepared to share and justify. 44

Proportional Reasoning – Breakout 2 Action ~ 20 minutes Pairs Move to the corner of the room that we have designated for grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 and find someone within your corner who wishes to work on a common course. Get materials you will need: Chart Paper, Markers, Curriculum Document (hardcopy or online), access to EduGAINS Find a space to work. 77

Proportional Reasoning – Breakout 2 Action ~ 20 minutes (continued) ACTIVITY: You are designing the framework for a lesson: 1.Find an expectation (or cluster of expectations) that addresses proportional reasoning in the course you have chosen. 2.On the chart paper, record: The course code and the curriculum expectation(s) chosen. The learning goal you would have for your students. The consolidating question(s). Think of the broader context and include a statement related to the Big Idea/Enduring Understanding that is addressed by the curriculum expectation(s). 3.Post your chart paper when you are done. 88
