Chapter 13 L13-4 Notes: Two-Dimensional Figures

2 Vocabulary In geometry, flat figures such as squares or rectangles are two-dimensional figures. A polygon is a simple, closed, two-dimensional figure formed by three or more sides. When all of the sides of a polygon are congruent and all of the angles are congruent, the polygon is a regular polygon.

3 Polygons

4 Identify the Polygon Identify the polygon. Then state if it is a regular polygon. The polygon has 5 sides. So, it is a pentagon. Since the sides and angles are congruent, it is a regular polygon.

6 Quadrilaterals

7 Analyze Two-Dimensional Figures
HW L13-4 pg 524 # odds Analyze Two-Dimensional Figures Many aircraft display the American flag in the shape of a parallelogram to show motion. Identify and describe the similarities and the differences between a rectangle and a parallelogram.                                                                                                                 These shapes are alike because they both have four sides, opposite sides parallel, and opposite sides congruent. They are different because a rectangle has four right angles and a parallelogram does not necessarily have four right angles.
