Linear and Constant Functions
y = mx + b or f (x) = mx + b for m ≠ 0 graph is a straight line [linear!] Domain = and range = Example f (x) = 2x + 2 f (x) = 3x - 1 f (x) = -5x + 7 f (x) = x the identity function If m = 0, y = b is a constant function Domain , range b f (x) = 2, range = 2 f (x) = c, range = c the constant function
4
Linear functions State the domain of each graph
[identity function] Domain: Range: State the domain of each graph State the range of each graph Domain: Range:
5
Absolute Value Functions
the absolute value function is the function defined by f (x) = |x| its graph is v-shaped Domain: Range:
6
More absolute value functions
Graph each function and state the domain and range f(x) = |x - 4 | Domain = Range = g(x) = | 3x - 9 |
7
where a, b, and c are real numbers, with a ≠ 0
Quadratic Functions A quadratic function is a function of the form f (x) = ax2 + bx + c, where a, b, and c are real numbers, with a ≠ 0 Domain = Range =
8
Square-Root Functions
The square-root function is the function defined by f (x) = graphs look like half a parabola.
9
Graphing Relations that are not functions
a relation is any set of ordered pairs these relations are not functions why? what are some ordered pairs?
