The Holistic Physicians Database By Ronald Steriti, ND, PhD
2
An Invaluable Reference The Holistic Physicians Database contains information on Diseases: causes, lab tests and treatments Prescription medications (drugs) Dietary supplements: vitamins, herbs, etc. Professional products Clinical research, references and articles.
3
Benefits for Physicians Quick and easy access to detailed information Scientific studies are easily identified for each disease, supplement, and the combination of disease and supplement Reliable information from trusted sources
4
Organization The database is divided into main sections and subsections: Diseases Lab Tests Drugs Supplements Products Protocols Library
5
Benefits for Nutraceutical Companies Products are listed with ingredients and forms The protocol section lists recommended products Quick access to relevant information
6
Therapies The therapies section lists the dietary supplements for each disease along with the number of published research studies on that disease. Click on the left triangle to go to the supplement, and the right triangle to see the studies for the disease and supplement combination.
7
Research This page shows the research studies for Vitamin E and Cataracts. They are listed by date. Notice the check mark next to the fifth study. You can download this one for free. Click on the triangle to see the study.
8
Studies The study page shows the abstract and notes. Click on “Get Study” to open the PubMed page in your web browser. Notice the upper left corner shows the last three pages visited.
9
Research Studies Many holistic physicians base their therapeutic recommendations on published scientific research. The database lists relevant research studies for supplements, diseases and the combination of a supplement and disease.
10
Unbiased Information Most physicians prefer peer-reviewed scientific journals. They choose their information sources wisely. Web searches are unreliable.
11
Trusted Sources Trust is an important issue for most holistic physicians Many rely upon trusted medical journals for information (JAMA, NEJM, etc.) What journals are suitable for a conservative physician interested in alternative medicine?
12
Conservative Journals There are many new journals on alternative medicine, but only a few are appropriate. American Family Physician is perhaps the best choice for medical doctors new to alternative medicine. Alternative Medicine Review contains comprehensive reviews.
13
Quick and Easy Access The Holistic Physicians Database is different than other similar databases in that it provides quick and easy access to the references (journals). A few clicks provides a list of references, which can be scanned quickly. Most physicians have a short list of journals that they rely upon for their information.
14
Docere - To Teach Teaching is an important aspect of alternative medicine, whether it’s a new physician just learning, or a seasoned veteran interested in keeping up to date. The Holistic Physicians Database is designed for self-directed study. Perhaps the best feature is where it says: “This research study may be available for free download”. In this way we can expand their list of “trusted journals”.
15
The Number of Studies One of the most interesting aspects of The Holistic Physicians Database is the number of research studies is listed in the therapies. Is it good that a certain vitamin has a lot of studies for a particular disease? Is it bad when there’s only one or no studies? One great study is worth a lot more than several mediocre ones!
16
Information Portals On the web, information portals contain links to relevant web sites. People come back because it’s a great resource for them to find what they want quickly. The Holistic Physicians Database can be an information portal on your web site.
17
Nutritional Protocols Treatment information is organized based on diseases, whether it’s drugs or vitamins. The FDA does not allow dietary supplement products to be listed with the diseases. They must be at least “two clicks” away. The solution is “General Protocols”, such as “Hormone Balancing”. These protocols are not specific for a single disease, but are relevant to a group of diseases or body system.
