She rides on her broomstick She wears red cloaks with white trim January 5 th and 6 th she delivers presents Befana is the Italian equivalent of father Christmas or Santa Claus Back ground story La Befana was approached by the three wise man who asked her to lead them to the stable where the baby Jesus lay in a manger. La Befana has been an Italian tradition for a long time and comes from Christian legend rather than popular culture.
