The Speed of Light c
2
Is not infinite Although, in OUR little worlds, – it might as well be, since we’re soooo SLOW and light is soooo FAST
3
Why don’t we get to go faster than c ? There are reasons based on THEORY And There are PRACTICAL reasons
4
Theory The way the math works is: Let’s say we’re on a rocket moving at.9c We fire a missile that goes at.9c How fast is the missile going, to a stationary observer? NOT 1.8c ! More like.99c Even if the rocket turns on its headlights, that light still only moves at c (not rocket + c)
5
More theory Mass dilation says your mass becomes more & more nearly infinite as you approach c. So you’re going to need some force to accelerate. Now you’re going a little bit faster. Now your mass is even more. Now the same force you used before is going to have less effect. See where the limit here?
6
Practical According to SEEING RELATIVITY, you’re flying into a more & concentrated and intense beam of gamma rays. Good luck with that. As your mass dilates, you need a greater and greater force to accelerate to an even greater speed. How much force, exactly, do you need, to accelerate to c? Good luck with finding that.
