2. U.S.-Soviet Tensions During WWII  U.S. wasn’t on good terms with Soviet Union before WWII.  Allies during the war to defeat Nazi Germany.  Lots of suspicion and distrust on both sides.  The fear of Soviet’s spreading Communism led to Cold War.

4. Harsh Reality of an Economic Dream  Millions starved because of collective farms.  People saw only a few benefitted from economy.  Millions were killed for their protests.

8. Fall of Communism in USSR  Mikhail Gorbachev became president in the 1980s.  Gorbachev allowed more economic and political freedoms.  This led to republics demanding independence, and fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.
