R EVIEW OF B ACKGROUND Electrophotographic Printing (EP) test rig originally from Kodak P09503 modified for improved usability and automation LabView controls implemented for automation Has station for major steps: Charging, Exposure, Toner, Transfer Fusing occurs on a different rig Exposure step is performed with a negative. Cannot print file from computer. Our Problem: Test pattern cannot be specified from computer

C ONSTRAINTS 1)Can ONLY modify the exposure step of the current rig. a)Has to fit into current rig: ~15"wide x 10" x 12" high space but more, non-rectangular, space is available & can be measured b)does not adversely affect other stations 2)Potential safety hazards must be clearly visible, marked, and avoidable

D ELIVERABLES 1)Functioning exposure setup integrated into current rig. 2)Senior design paper detailing design process. 3)Manual with instructions for safety, use, and maintenance.

C ONCEPTS LED Bar -An array of tiny LEDs is individually turned on and off to apply the light -Harvest from printer LASER Head -Laser is directed by a reflector of some sort while turned on and off very quickly -Harvest from printer Digital Micromirrors - Commonly used in projectors -Build custom head Image from Reference 3 Image from Reference 2 Image from Reference 5

S UGGESTED S TAFFING DisciplineQuantitySkills Needed For: EE 1-2-Motor control, interfacing with circuitry and microcontrollers.* ME/ISE 1-2 -Systematic disassembly of printer and integration of resulting exposure setup into physical rig. Basically anything involving arranging and supporting the physical components. -LabVIEW* and some motion control. Comp E 0-1 -Print pattern file handling and possibly some driver work, all for Windows.* -Also could be of use in motor control, interfacing with circuitry and controllers. *The overall program will have to somehow interface with the existing LabVIEW program. This may be as simple as having it call another program to print or the entire program may be in LabVIEW. Total should be 3 or 4 people.
