3. As a class…  Read “Koko- The Smart Signing Gorilla” beginning on page 159.  Pay attention and follow along!  While reading, annotate your thinking about the central idea and supporting details of the story.

4. With your groups…  Answer questions 1-6 on page 163 in your notebook in complete sentences. Cite evidence from the passage to support your answers.  DF- Make sure your group stays on task and everyone is keeping up.

With your groups…  Begin reading “Aunt Millicent” from the Literature books beginning on page 715.  DF- Make sure everyone is paying attention and participates!  While reading, annotate your thinking about the point of view the author is using and how the characters change throughout the story in your notebook.

On the first day, the students realize that they are the first people to be in the building. One of the teachers suggests that everyone write about his or her first day in the school. These narratives will be compiled in a book for future students to read. b. Think about what it would be like to attend a newly build school.
