2. Keynote Speaker – Dr Christine Fejo King Christine Fejo-King is an Aboriginal woman from the Northern Territory. Her mother is a Warumungu woman from Tennant Creek and her father was a Larrakia man from Darwin. She now lives in the Australian Capital Territory and is self-employed.

3. Workshops A series of five workshops will be offered Those attending the conference will select two workshops – one in each of the two time slots (11-11:30am and 11:30am-12:10pm) Two workshops are designated for teachers only – Workshop 3 and Workshop 5.

5. Workshop 1 Australian Defence Force – Opportunities and Pathways WO Ken Nelliman (students/ teachers) The ADF has a range of Indigenous programs intended to support service members and communities and to acknowledge significant Indigenous cultural events. This workshop will outline the growing network that exists within the ADF to provide advice on the initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Discussion of the Indigenous Recruitment Strategy as well as advice and support for career pathways will be the focus of this workshop.

6. Workshop 2 Canberra Institute of Technology - Flexible Training for Work Caroline Hughes (students/ teachers) The CIT Yurauna Centre is CIT's dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support centre. Director Caroline Hughes and staff will outline the opportunities for further study for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students at the Yurauna Centre. The CIT Yurauna Centre can help students grow in knowledge, abilities and confidence, and help them along the path to your career of choice through skills training, advice and cultural support. This workshop offers students an insight into courses available to support flexible training for work as well as support services.

7. Workshop 3 AIATSIS - 8 ways – Learning Through Culture (teachers) 8 Ways focuses on how to embed basic Aboriginal and Torres Strait perspectives across your classroom in just one week. Information will include discussion of the Cultural Interface Theory (Dr Martin Nakata) which examines ways that knowledge can increase the overlap across cultures and practical ways to embed the protocols for engaging with Aboriginal knowledge in your classroom.

8. Workshop 4 ACU - Indigenous Students Panel (students/ teachers) Particularly aimed at students, this workshop will be conducted in a Q&A format by a panel of 2 nd and 3 rd year Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Australian Catholic University. They will share their experiences of success and challenges in negotiating Year 11 and 12 studies as well as tertiary education and respond to questions students may have about their journeys.

9. Workshop 5 Paul Lucas – Sustainable Futures – On Holy Ground (teachers) Former principal of Holy Spirit School in Townsville, Paul Lucas, has committed his life to pursuing and promoting ecological sustainability through environmental education. His school environs are a tribute to his passion for integrating our care for the environment in everything we do. This workshop will provide practical ways to incorporate a spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and social experience for all that will assist in the development of a life-long caring stewardship of the Environment.
