Newsletter Briar Hill Infant School 11th December 2015 SByrne
Briar Hill Infant School Newsletter 11th December 2015 We have nearly reached the end of term, it has been a very long 15 weeks but it has gone quickly and in this time so much has happened! The children have had a wealth of learning experiences this term thanks to the dedicated staff. We have welcomed in 90 new children and their families, all children next week will have visited Warwick Arts Centre to see The Gruffalos Child, Reception have performed an amazing Christmas Nativity Play, Years 1 and 2 have performed Christmas concerts at the Church and so much more! Mrs Tallis and I would like to thank you for your continuing support and wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous Happy New Year. See you all on TUESDAY 6th January 2015. SByrne Polite Reminders Please remember that children are not allowed to ride their bikes/scooters on school grounds which includes the slope by HB9 down to Kirton Close. If you park on Kirton Close, please ensure you are not blocking the school entrance or park on the footpath. This obstructs the access for pushchairs. When you are dropping your children to school at 8.45 am please do not stop in the road to allow your children to get out. This is extremely dangerous and a child was nearly hit by a car trying to manoeuvre around a car that had stopped in the road. Please ensure the school office have the correct mobile phone number to ensure you receive school text messages. Only one parent from each family will receive texts unless you request another parent to be added via the office. Please DO NOT put your child’s water bottle in their book bag as books are getting water damaged and we will charge £5 for damaged books. Road to Rio We have now travelled km on our Road to Rio. An amazing accomplishment, thank you to all of those who are registering their children's activity outside of school. We are currently in 37th place out of 287 schools who are actively taking part across the country. We are also pleased to announce that Briar Hill School's rocket logo is being included in the UK's part of the 'Peace Patch Flag' which will be displayed at the Rio Olympics representing schools support for peace through the Olympic truce. Clubs The clubs are proving very popular and these will continue next term. You will have received a text to confirm your child's place. Payment requests and slips will be sent out after Christmas and must be returned by 8/1/16. Please contact the office if you DO NOT wish your child to take part in the club they have been put down for .Thanks PTA The Christmas Fayre was extremely busy and we raised £1,550. Thanks for all your support. Space Day On Monday Briar Hill celebrated British astronaut Tim Peake's upcoming mission to the International Space Station by having our own fantastic Space Day. Exciting activities included building a landing device to safely land 'egg-stronauts', practising our earth to ISS communication skills, creating nebula art and even making our own milky planets. We learned how astronauts eat, sleep and even go to the toilet whilst on mission. But the highlight of the day had to be as we gathered on St Margaret's playground to launch the winning rocket design from each class. The brilliant rockets flew so high and HB3's design celebrated a whopping 9.5 seconds of airborne time! Now we are looking forward to watching Tim Peake's real launch together on 15th December. Maybe we are training budding astronauts right here at Briar Hill!

Christmas Collections Thank you very much to all who donated to the collections we had at the end of the Christmas concerts. We raised at grand total of £ which we will added to the Text Santa appeal. We have decided to take part in the Christmas Jumper / Top Day on Friday 18 December. It is part of the Text Santa appeal which raises funds and awareness for families in difficulty at Christmas. The three charities, it will be supporting this year is Macmillian Cancer Support, Make a Wish and Save the Children. The children will still need to wear their uniform but they can replace their school jumper for a Christmas jumper or top ( please don’t go to any extra expense of buying anything for this , even if it’s a bit of tinsel stuck on a jumper you already have) For this we suggest a donation of £1.
