2009 – Co. Council In 2009, we were allocated an expected usage We exceeded it by 114,814.8 litres!!! In 2009, we used a total of 462,981.5 litres of water Our school survey shows our consumption is going up

At School - Toilets 16 toilets surveyed in one week 1427 flushes recorded @9 litres per flush...12,843 litres of water That makes 462,348 litres per school year (36 weeks) 2,278 litres per person per year That’s 12.5 litres every day...everybody!

At School – Other water usage Assuming 1 hand wash for every toilet flush That’s 1427 hand washes per week... 15 seconds=1.5 litres=2140.5litres per week=77058l p.a. That’s 2.1 l per person per day

At School - Staffroom 275 mugs of tea/coffee per week...68.75 litres Dishwasher used every day... 100 litres 25 yoghurt cartons washed per week...15 seconds...37.5l

At Home – Personal Hygiene 47 households returned the survey 27893.5 litres used per day...593.5 litres per house For 150 households, that’s 83,680.5 litres per day!!! Toilet flushing and power showers biggest offenders

At home - Other 6 litres per household per day on hot/cold drinks Hardly anyone makes regular use of their garden hose 122.1 litres per household for clothes/pots/dishes wash Total of 33,915.5 litres of water per day per household

150 Homes and 1 School Total combined daily use 104,927.65 litres per day That’s 37,773,702 litres per year!!! (37,773.7 cubic m) At current co. Council rates, that's €81,591.20) Some committee members feel 3c/litre is a fair price The above usage would then cost... €1,133,211!!!
