Geometry 9-5 Dimensionality How many dimensions does each measurement have? Perimeter: Area: Volume: one two three
3
Examples) What effect will doubling the dimensions have on the perimeter/area? What effect will a scale factor of 1/3 have on the perimeter/area? If the original perimeter is 60 and the new perimeter is 30, what is the scale factor? If the original area is 20 and the new area is 180, what is the scale factor? Double the perimeter, 2 x 2 = 4 times the area 1/3 the perimeter 1/3 x 1/3 = 1/9 the area 30/60 = ½, scale factor = ½ 180/20 = 9 = 3 x 3 Scale factor = 3
