Joni Stuker: My Story Like so many, I was not “born into the automotive industry” and when setting out to determine where I might establish a career the auto industry seemed as good a choice as any other. Quick Background: Middle Child of 4 Girls Life-long Midwesterner, Attended the University of Wisconsin 1 st job in Car Industry was as a Salesperson in Indianapolis Nearly 30 years of Automotive Consulting During my years in the automotive industry, I have come to live by a few key principles that have enabled me to achieve great things but more importantly respond to adversity: Embrace Competition Recognize Adversity Rise to a Challenge Never be Afraid of the Word “No” Learn from every Experience regardless of the Outcome Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net

“Remember..no one gives you power, you must seize it” There comes a point within all organizations, automotive or otherwise, where talent and experience no longer determine who assumes power. What ultimately determines power is the person in a crowd, or in a meeting who chooses to STEP-UP and assume control. Take a moment and think to yourself, when was the last time you seized an opportunity for more power, for more ownership, for more leadership? Points to Consider: What was the outcome from your decision Would you do this again What take-away did you have Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net

Let’s Start with a Simple Question: Why are women so under-represented within the automotive industry? Hours, Work Schedule Training, Opportunity for Advancement Targeted Recruitment Did you know…According to the Dept. of Labor (2014): Women represent 21% of labor automotive labor force 56% of women hold office, or clerical positions 16% of women hold Executive or Sr. Official positions 13% of women hold position in Sales position Together we are going to learn how to better identify these gaps, discuss possible solutions and develop realistic ways to capture the opportunity in front of us! Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net

Why did you get into the automotive industry? Did you have any sort of expectations or goals prior to taking your position? Let’s take a moment to think about our own careers and experiences within this industry, and then ask: What has your greatest challenge been? Do you routinely set goals for yourself? What are your career objectives for the next year? Do you have a plan for the next 3-5 years? What is your greatest strength and greatest weakness? Self-Awareness vs. Uncomfortable Self Consciousness Do you like your answers? Are you comfortable with your career trajectory? Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net

Goal Setting – How to get on Track 1.Goals Propel your Forward: a written goal is a tangible declaration of your personal wishes, it’s a constant reminder of where you want to go, and what you want to accomplish. 2.Goals Transform Impossible to Achievable: consistent goal setting will help create a plan to reach long term achievement 3.Goals Build Confidence: setting a goal and completing it helps you believe in your ability and will fuel your ambition 4.Goals Hold you Accountable: having goals will force you to evaluate your effort and performance against competition 5.Goals Determine your Ambition: setting a goal says so much about who you are and fosters self-reflection 6.Goals Lead to a Richer Experience: having a point to work towards allows you enjoy the journey not just the outcome Joni C. Identifying Obstacles Let’s be honest, having a sound plan and consistent approach are great steps towards accomplishing your career goals. However you must be prepared to face challenges along the way. What are some of the most common obstacles to achieving success? Lack of Motivation & Productivity Does your career lack the proper training and attention required to ensure sustained growth? If so, what ways can you jump start your own energy and spark your motivation? Employee Interaction Are you surrounded by individuals that are constantly negative? If so, you must learn to separate yourself from these individuals while maintaining necessary relationships. Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net
10
Customer Interaction Are there certain types of customers that routinely cause you more anxiety or stress than others? How can you learn to prepare to better handle these situations to ensure you stay on course? Make your interactions brief, but direct, and utilize other department resources. Lack of Ownership Do not get frustrated by the things you can’t control – remember you are looking for ways to seize power for the things that you have power over. Focus on the actions that will dictate your own success and more doors will open for you. Remember, if you help enough people get what they want ultimately you will get what you want. Session #2 (1:30-4:20pm) Welcome back to all our attendees from our earlier session! To our new guests, its great to have you join us! Recap from our earlier session: History and Background of Joni Stuker Goals for this Session What the key lessons from Session #1 Session #2 Focus – Opportunity for Female Employees in our Industry Interesting Starting Point….Did you know? Of the current workforce, less than 15% of women work within the automotive retail market, but it’s a fact that women make up 90% of the buying process when it comes to purchasing a new vehicle. If women are so influential when it comes to purchasing a vehicle, why are they not more represented in our dealerships? Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net
13
Employment Opportunities The automotive industry, and more specifically retailers/dealerships, present a variety of employment positions for female workers however you must be willing to challenge yourself and take on a new opportunity. Right now if you search any major retailer, you will find available positions for the following departments: Office, Administrative Work Sales & Service Financial Services Marketing Management & Leadership With these opportunities clearly available to prospective employees, consider the following: Which departments present the greatest opportunity for growth? If you are currently working at a dealership, what’s the best way to transition dept? How can you increase your recognition and personal brand to executive leadership? A great activity for each of you to take back to your current store – HOST a Career Awareness Meeting. Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net
14
Are you a Leader others will follow? Defining your style of leadership is critical to determining how effective you can be at mobilizing others. If you choose a style that doesn’t fit your personality or approach it will be difficult to rally others. Becoming a great leader starts with understanding your own style, taking 100% accountability on all initiatives and most importantly, working to get the most out of those around you. So how can you get the most out of those around you? Get to know those around you Develop a genuine relationship with each person Invest in their own development and growth Foster loyalty towards a common outcome or goal Create a culture of communication and visibility If you currently are in a management position, ask yourself are you a quality leader? Remember just because individuals are in power doesn’t necessarily mean they are leaders. Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net
15
Simple Steps to Establish Your Leadership Whether you are currently in a leadership position, or desire to move into this role, I want to impress upon you the following principles that have guided my career over the past three decades. Integrity & Ethics – mean what you say, stand by your principles Listen First, Speak Second – never assume, take a moment to understand Build Trust – people will open and follow if they can confide in you Take Initiative – do not worry about being right, worry about showing up Own your Performance – accountability is critical to being a real leader Establishing yourself as a leader takes persistence, commitment and an ability to put both success and failure into perspective. Take the time to share your experiences, good and bad, with those around you to help foster a strong commitment to your vision and values. Communicate, be transparent and show those around you that you value their contribution. Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net
16
Q&A Session Let’s take a moment to hear from your personal experiences, and how these principles can be applied to your role. Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net

Never assume people will give you a thing. Joni C. Stuker | Owner Connect, LLC| President & Founder| jstuker100@sbcglobal.net

Move Forward – every single meeting, interaction and day is an opportunity for you to progress towards your career goals. Take advantage of the day. Establish your Path – look at what options are available to you, and set a course to achieve your career goals Engage Leaders – your dealership is looking for the next “leader”, but you must be ready to interact with these individuals today.
