The 6 classes of nutrition Entry Task: Back in the day or even now you might have been told to finish your plate! List some positives and/or negatives about this idea of eating.

3 What are calories? Calories are a measure of the energy in food and energy your body burn.

4 The 3 nutrients that provide calories are? 1. Fats 2. Carbohydrates 3. Proteins

5 What factors influence the amount of calories I need? Body Size Gender Age Metabolic rate Rate of growth Activity level

6 How many calories should a person consume daily? Women/older adults: 1600 calories Children, teen girls, active women, most men: 2200 calories Teen boys, active men: 2800 calories

7 Calculations Sedentary people: weight X 14=estimated cal/day Moderately active people: weight X 17=estimated cal/day Active people: weight X 20=estimated cal/day Try calculating your own estimate! Guess your weight if you don’t know.

8 What is metabolism? Metabolism is a collection of chemical reactions that takes place in the body's cells. Metabolism converts the fuel in the food we eat into the energy needed to power everything we do, from moving to thinking to growing

9 Homework for Blue 10/19 Monday and Gold 10/20 Tuesday Bring in two food labels from your favorite foods. Print off 2 entry task sheets!!! Complete the purple FOOD LOG ASSIGNMENT.
