Copyright in research articles generally rests or is perceived to rest de facto with the academic him/herself. However there is often a mismatch with the trend that universities are increasingly developing polices with regard to IPR – if created as part of full-time employment then IPR rests with employing institution not the employee.

Conclusions Need to ensure as publisher you have right to digitise and disseminate. Need to consider authority to transfer copyright. Need to consider moving from copyright transfer to more flexible licensing.
