I can hear a whisper I can hear a shout I can keep still Or I can run about. I can see my nose tip I can see a star I can go to the moon Or drive a car. I can stroke a cat’s fur And clap my hands in glee I have a wonderful body And it belongs to me. I can sit still on my bottom And I can dance around I can close my eyes to sleep And not make a sound. I can curl in a ball Reach my fingers to the sky I can talk and sing and laugh And wiggle my toes up high. I can smell a lovely flower And sniff what’s cooking for tea I have a wonderful body And it belongs to me! Can you think of actions for the poem ? Your teacher might want to make it into a song. See if you can help

INTRODUCTION Present the first two slides of the PowerPoint and read the objective and focus for the lesson Ask “What can our bodies do?” discuss with the children the things they know the different parts of their bodies can do – children can write on the smiley faces the things they think of DISCUSSION Show the next slide containing “What can our bodies do” poem. If you can, use a simple tune to make a song instead. Make up actions for each line of the poem Perform the poem/song with the whole class, adding actions where appropriate TASK Present the children with the outline of the poem entitled “I love my” and children complete each line. Work through it as a class first on the board. More able children can think of further lines.
