Are you living out your Faith?

Or are you dead to the World?

Matthew 5:13-16

You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?

It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden

Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Why salt?

Only 6% of the salt used in the U.S. is used in food; another 17% is used for de-icing streets and highways in the winter months.

In the early 1800s salt was 4 times as expensive as beef on the frontier – it was essential in keeping people and livestock alive.

salt is used in manufacturing an estimated 14,000 products.

Out of the total salt production, only 7% is diverted towards the human consumption while the remaining 93% is used by the manufacturing and chemical industry.

All fruits and vegetables have a very negligible amount of salt in it. A vegetarian is always at the risk of developing salt-starvation conditions if cannot consume the required amount of salt. This is the reason most vegetarians crave for salty foods. Our saliva and gastric juices can break the foods into carbohydrates only when it is mixed with certain requisite amount of salt.

Following the purification procedure of the aviation fuel, salt is added to the mixture to remove the traces of water present in it.

Right up to the 20th century, pound bars of salt (called amoleh) were the basic currency in Abyssinia (now called Ethiopia).

Salt is so essential to the body that if you drink too much water it can flush it out of your system and cause fatal Hyponatremia. This is what killed Jennifer Strange who entered a “Hold your wee for a wii” competition.

Consumption of too much salt can be deadly – you need to take about 1 gram of salt per kilogram of weight to die and this was used as a method of ritual suicide in China – especially amongst the nobility as salt was so expensive.

In the late 17th century, salt was the leading cargo carried from the Caribbean to North America (most tonnage). Salt Cod was the leading cargo carried from North America to the Caribbean. It was used to feed slaves on sugar plantations.

Before refrigeration, especially in the middle east, salt was used t preserve food.

Every cell in you body contains salt.

We are called the SALT OF THE EARTH What do you think this means?

What about a City on a hill? A light that cannot be hidden?

How are we to be A shining light?

What is God really asking of us?
