2  You will be creating a three panel visual metaphor examining life before and after Lenin, by answering the basic question, How has life in Russia changed? To do this, you will work in pairs to create a metaphor that represents the changes in life during these historical periods: Tsarist Russia ( before Lenin), Lenin and Stalin. You will choose a metaphor-a tree, a river, a building, a town, a sports team or band, a person or a roller coaster- and make comparisons between it and key aspects of each period of history.

3  Each panel must include a title and a bold, detailed visual, that clearly shows the comparisons between your metaphor and the key historical items. You must include at least 6 of the following items per panel and they must be labeled. You may want to first, brainstorm and think about what Russia was like during these times.  Tsarist Russia before Lenin ( pages 389-393)- tsar, serfdom, Nicholas II, Bloody Sunday, the March Revolution, WWI, censorship, Russo-Japanese War, Rasputin, Lack of technology and resources, economic despair  Lenin- ( pages 393-394) Bolsheviks, Civil War, Treaty of Brest Litovsk, WWI, Loss of territory b/c of WWI, New Economic Policy (NEP), land to peasants, USSR, Karl Marx and Communism, economic recovery, socialism.  Stalin- (Pages395-400) 5 Year Plans, Collective Farms, Industrialization, The Great Purge, Secret Police, Propaganda, Communist Party, Totalitarian, youth groups, command economy, no religion, lack of food and housing, Kulaks
