Words Matter Seeking agreement on terminology
2
Defining terms for PFLCC O There are many terms of art and jargon being used to describe resource priorities. O The goal is to get agreement on terms for common understanding.
3
Relevance to PFLCC O The PFLCC business plan includes a number of cross-cutting goals. The first of these goals is: Establish conservation targets. O Goal number 2 is : Facilitate partner collaboration that maximizes conservation investment, coordination and effectiveness. O Objective (a) – Develop a shared vision of important natural resource landscapes to enhance collaborative conservation.
4
Priority Resources The set of biological, ecological, cultural features and ecological processes that have been collaboratively identified by LCC Steering Committees and that are the focus of the LCC’s planning, science and measurable objectives.
5
Indicator An attribute or value that informs us about desired landscape conditions.
6
Conservation Targets Targets are measurable expressions of desired resource conditions that are established by the LCC partnership. Targets are a measurable endpoint of indicators.
7
Measurable Objectives Measurable objectives (targets) are the spatially explicit (where) and the temporally specific (when) quantitative (how much) attributes that describe the desired state of the LCC’s priority resources
8
Conservation Priorities The critical knowledge, science, actions, or activities that are needed to achieve the LCC’s targets for their priority resources.
9
Focal Areas Geographic areas that have been collaboratively identified and prioritized by the LCC Steering Committee for conservation emphasis.
