The Scriptures Teach us: How is Man Saved?

Titus 2:11-14 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

We are Saved by The Grace of God! Someone has said Grace is: G - God’s R- Redemption A- At C- Christ’s E- Expense

Grace – God’s unmerited favor

Titus 3:3-7 3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Eph. 2:1-3 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Eph. 2:4-10 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Grace is God’s Gift to man! 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (works that you can boast about) (Problem of the Pharisee in Luke 18:9-14) 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

You cannot Earn God’s Grace; It is a Gift! Rom. 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. 6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Eph. 2:8-10 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, (boastful works) lest any man should boast. (Lk. 18:1-12) 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

God’s Grace is Conditional!

In Numbers 21:5, the children of Israel, while wandering in the Wilderness, came to the land of Edom where they grumbled and spoke against God. “And the people spake against God,and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. The Lord became very angry and ‘he sent fiery serpents among The people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.” v.7..”Therefore the people came to Moses and said, We have sinned, For we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee. Pray unto the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.”

Then the Lord said to Moses, “You make thee a fiery serpent and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. So Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. All they had to do was to look by faith on the serpent. They didn’t earn their healing, but they did have to comply with God’s conditions. Obeying is not the same as earning. Obedience is an act of faith and trust that God will keep his promises.

God’s Grace is Conditional

A Man born blind…never had seen in his life! John 9:1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. Jesus wanted to heal this man and show the power of God, v. 6.. He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And said unto him, “Go, wash, in the pool of Siloam (which translated means Sent). He went away and he washed, and he came back seeing. John 9:6-7. Who would argue that washing in a pool is the same as earning his eyesight? The man earned nothing, but he believed strongly enough to do what Jesus told him to do. Faith is not merely accepting. It is trusting enough to do what the Lord asks us to do!

The Bible does not teach that baptism is how we earn salvation. But the bible is clear, that baptism is necessary to salvation— just as the looking on the brass serpent was necessary just as washing in the pool of Siloam was necessary God tests us to see if we really love Him and believe in Him! These tests are conditions…God’s conditions…not ours! God gave them to us. We did not make them up ourselves!

When we meet God’s conditions, we say to Him 1. God we believe you. We want to please you. We gladly do What you tell us to do… (People on the first day of Pentecost after the resurrection.. ‘then they that ‘gladly’ received the word, were baptized, and the same day there added unto them about 3,000 souls) Acts 2:38-41 2. People often are guilty of presumptuous sin. They presume that God will save them the way they want to be saved. Matt. 7:21-23

Does Grace have any conditions? Yes… God’s salvation is a gift…but there are conditions that God Sets that must be met if we are saved. $ 5.00 gift …

Indisputable Facts about the Grace of God 1. We are saved (from hell: )) by the grace of God. 2. We are saved by grace (through faith) in Jesus Christ 3. The Grace of God is a gift…given by God to the sinner. 4. The Grace of God is a gift that has conditions that must be met By the sinner. God’s favor is dependent upon man meeting the conditions by Which it is given!.

God’s conditions for His gift… 1. He that believeth and is baptized –shall be saved ( given salvation) 2. If you don’t meet the conditions of the giver, you will not be Given the gift. Remember: a) A brazen serpent. They had to look upon the serpent…if you did not look upon the brazen serpent, you would die…not live. b) The pool of Soloam. The blind man was told to go and wash in the pool of Siloam and he would be able to see. He did. His sight was given him. His eyes were now used for him to see.(John 9:1ff) c) The river of Jordan. Naaman. 2 Kings 5:1-19 He was told to go and dip 7 times in the river Jordan. No, no other waters would produce his being Cured of his leprosy.. He finally went…dipped himself 7 times..and he was cleansed. He did not merit his cleansing.

REMEMBER: a) A brazen serpent. They had to look upon the serpent…if you did not look upon the brazen serpent, you would die…not live. b) The pool of Siloam. The blind man was told to go and wash in the pool of Siloam and he would be able to see. He did. His sight was given him. His eyes were OPENED.Now He Can See(John 9:1ff) c) The river of Jordan. 22 Some things that Jesus has reminded us of: 1. Do his works…Matt. 7:21-23. Not a work that he has not Ordained. Col.3:17; Eph. 2:10 2. Confess him before men…he will confess you before his FatherIn Heaven. (Matt. 10:32,33; Rom. 10:9-10) 3. Obey Him. Heb. 5:8,9 4. Be faithful to death…Lk.9:62 No man, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Rev. 14:13
