The Descent into Hell This is a Siberian Diamond Mine, this is mor than 1 km wide and ½ km deep. On the way down you can see the road as it winds in a circle. This reminded me of the rings of hell Dante described

Seventh Circle Third Ring :the violent against God The First Zone are blasphemers on fiery sands Capaneaus the Giant The old man from Crete

Ring 3 The land was barren and covered with sand with flames of fire that seemed to snow down, in which they try to put out The blasphemers were either sitting, standing, crouched, or walking in torment All were naked and weeping

Capaneaus Giant Cast into hell for holding disdain against God. He sits there sulking, not even being consumed or noticing the fire falling all around

The old Man of Crete Virgil tells Dante of and old man in Crete that is made up of gold, silver, iron, and clay. He stands looking at Rome. With all of him except his gold cracked he cries. His tears form the rivers of hell
