Workshop purpose You are here to experience and understand the PDSA Improvement Process, its application to improving science teaching and learning in primary school To identify and share “probletunities” encountered when operating as a VIC Science Specialist

Workshop outline (90 minutes) INTRO:Purpose, outline, outcomes (5 mins) ENGAGE:Review previous learning (10 mins)To examine the changes/improvements the PMSS Program is trying to achieve and the probletunities encountered as a Science Specialist EXPLORE:To explore more about the leadership for learning framework (20 mins)Choose a change or probletunity to examine EXPLAIN:To learn about the PDSA Improvement process (10 mins) ELABORATE:Use quality tools to begin the process of solving some probletunities (25 mins) EVALUATE:Your ideas for improvement (20 mins)Summarise, reflect and evaluate

Outcomes On completion of this module participants will understand: the PDSA improvement process examples of techniques to apply at each stage of the PDSA process the application of the PDSA process to improving the teaching and learning of primary science that the PDSA process can be applied to both small and large improvement projects contribute to sharing and devising effective solutions for improving probletunities

Application of the Plan Do Study Act Cycle requires us to be clear and specific about: the purpose and goals of the proposed improvement who is served by the proposed improvement and their needs how success will be evaluated the deficiencies in the current situation and the causes of these deficiencies a theory and plan for improvement evaluation of the success of the plan and reflecting on appropriate next steps

Use the PDSA process In groups apply the PDSA process to your change or probletunity. Concentrate on the Plan stage. Include the Probletunity, the root cause of the issue AND identify which of the eight dimensions from the framework it belongs Participate in a gallery walk and discuss with your group.
