Static Electricity The imbalance of electrical charge on the surface of an object Example making your hair positively charged, and a balloon negatively charged as you rub the balloon on your head

Law of Electric Charges States that Objects that have like charges repel each other Objects that have opposite charges attract each other The strength of the Electrical Force is related to the distance between the two objects and the amount of charge on each object

Induced Charge Separation When you bring a charged object towards a neutral object, it causes the electrons to shift position The electrons move according to the Law of Electric Charges What does that mean?

Charging by Friction When two objects come into contact and are rubbed against each other, one is more likely to attract the electrons than the other If it had extra electrons it has what kind of charge?

Charging by Conduction When two objects with different amounts of electrical charge come into contact and the electrons move from one object to another Electrons always move from the more negative object to the one that is less negative to evenly distribute the charge

Grounding Removing the electrical charge by transferring electrons between a charged object and a large neutral object (eg. Earth) Electrons can transfer from the object to the neutral object, in which case you can get a shock Or electrons can travel from the neutral object to your charged object to balance out the positive charge.
