WASTE To Waves - 1st Year UPDATE
2
What is Waste to Waves?
3
Recycles Styrofoam Packaging Into New Surfboard Blanks* + = W2W does not recycle single-use food styrofoam W2W only targets packaging and commercial foam W2W compliments RAP’s efforts to eliminate single-use food container foam
4
What happens to the foam?
5
Foam is “densified” and reprocessed into new EPS
6
W2W is a Public-Private Partnership Invention, Development and Operations Sponsorship and Funding (NGO ) (Blank Manufacturer) Additional Partners provide activism marketing and logistic support
7
Why Waste to Waves Matters 1.Styrofoam is the most common plastic trash found on our beaches (source: SD Surfrider survey 2011) 2.Styrofoam can be recycled indefinitely, but almost never is 3.Recycling is “cooler” when you can make a surfboard
8
How Waste to Waves Works

How Chapters Can Get Involved
19
Surfrider Chapter Opportunities For select CA Chapters: We are looking for a W2W coordinator (SoCal Chapters) Help create foam collection opportunities in your community Schools, foam drives, etc… For other Chapters: Legwork needed to identify foam transport and processing infrastructure We will help you develop this! Everyone can buy W2W recycled EPS blanks! See Jim Moriarty’s 3-part blog story on his W2W surfboard
