5. Example:
A ladder is 12 feet high and is placed on the side of a building 3 feet away. How far up the build is the ladder? If a window is 10 feet above the ground will a person who is 6 feet tall be able to reach the window?

6. Example
You and your friend are eating hamburgers and shakes at Five Guys. When you are finished you go due North at 5 miles per hour. Your friend goes due East at 7 miles per hour. How far away are you after a half hour? If you both continue at the same rate how far away are you after 1 hour?

7. With a Partner…
Bubba is painting the outside of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. warehouse. He has a ladder that is 24 feet tall. In order to use the ladder safely, he must place it 2 feet from the building. What is the highest point the ladder will reach on the warehouse? If Bubba is 6.5 feet tall could he reach a spot that is 30 feet off the ground?

Charlie Brown and Linus are at the playground. They need to go home for dinner. Charlie Brown lives due South of the play ground, and he walks at a speed of 4 miles per hour. Linus lives due East from the play ground and he walks at a speed of 3 miles per hour. If it takes them 30 minutes to get home how far apart are their homes?
